Broxbourne
Rangers Youth reds ‘V’ Buntingford Cougars Blues.
Sunday 18th May 2008.
For the first time in
the clubs 36-year history, a Cougars team got to a Herts County Cup Final.
The game was played
at The County Ground Letchworth in front of a very many supporters from both
teams. Both teams had provided transport for both the players and supporters,
which made a great turn out for the boys.
The match started
with Cougars pushing hard with Charlie Owen having the best of the opening
shots. With the first half well under way, Broxbourne started to get back into
the game, but were only to come up against the defence of Louie Debnam and
The second half
started like the first, Cougars pushing and being held by some fine goal
keeping from Broxbourne’s keeper Marco Tuzzeo. With the shots raining in at the
Broxboune keeper, it was Charlie Owen that equalised for the Cougars. The game
stayed at 1-1 and into extra time we went.
During extra time both
teams were pushing for the winner.
However, with fine shots from Charlie Rome only to be kept out by; now
man of the match Marco Tuzzeo, the first half of
extra time stayed at 1-1.
Into the second half
of extra time it was an even game. It was left to Harry Andic to steal the
honours; after a long ball up the field, Andic headed
onto the Cougars’ bar and then following it up in to the Cougars’ net.
With the final few
seconds left Cougars pushed as hard as they could but went down 2-1 at the end.
A very big well done
to all the boys for their hard work and a special thanks to Buntingford Co-op
and The Buntingford Post office for there support for the team.
Cougars v
Bedwell Rangers Ajax
Cougars Under
10’s Stripes had a great game against Bedwell Rangers
Ajax with a 2-2 draw.
With a
even first half, Bedwell had the lead for less then
10 seconds, from the restart the ball came back to Sam Pye
and from 35 yards out smashed the ball past the Bedwell
keeper.
It stayed 1-1 at half time. With the game going from end to end Cougars had the lead after a
great passing move that left Bedwell standing and was
finished off by Alex Woolnough. Bedwell pushed had to get back into the game and got the
equalizer with minutes to go to end the game as a draw.
Well done!
After a good start from
cougars, they went one down against the run of play. It was left to Reece
Fitzgerald to coolly slot home a penalty after being fouled in the box. Cougars pressure again and was reworded with a goal from
Charlie Rome, but soon Royston were back in the game minutes later.
With only 3 minutes to go, a
corner from Reece Fitzgerald was missed handled and that was enough for Cougars
to see them through was no more than what the boys deserved and all the best of
luck in the final from all the parents and coaches
